The amazing feeling of a job well done

A Schmidt fitter installs custom-designed made-to-measure kitchens, bathrooms, dressing rooms, fixtures and fittings for our customers, based on technical plans drawn up by the sales designer.

ABOUT THE ROLE

What does a day at work look like?

Being a fitter with Schmidt is extremely varied. You might be installing a designer entrance closet one day, an open plan kitchen the next, and a bespoke bathroom suite the week after that.

Installation can last for one or several days, depending on the scope of the project. You’ll have accurate technical plans from our sales designers, who’ve worked closely with the customer to design a vision they love.

Your role will involve:

  • Taking precise measurements
  • Installing fixed furniture like cabinets
  • Cutting and fitting worktops, bases, and splashbacks
  • Connecting fittings and household appliances
  • Quality control testing and adjustments
  • Final clear-up to leave customers’ homes immaculate

Your final job will be signing off the certificate of completion—and watching customers’ faces light up when they see their new space!

I started out working in a factory that manufactured windows. After 2 years there, I got fed up. It was a friend of mine that told me about the training he took to be a fitter, so I didn’t think twice about retraining and I don’t regret my decision. After the training, I set up my own company as a self-employed contractor and Schmidt put their trust in me. I take part in training courses almost every year to keep up to date with the latest products.

What our fitters say

Bernard Fitter
I was a self-employed carpenter for 12 years and then I began installing windows to diversify my business. I was on-site when I met a Schmidt fitter. I thought their job sounded interesting and it made me want to take the plunge myself. Schmidt helped me to train. I stayed working as a subcontractor for 18 months and then was hired as an employee. Today we have a team of three fitters and we are going to be joined by a fourth. I'm a bit like their team leader and I love sharing my experience with them.
